Club de Golf Malinalco - San Sebastián de Amola, México - A weekend home community for residents of México City, located roughly one and a half hours southwest of the City. The course, considered by many to be the best in México, was selected to host the 1993 Mexican PGA tournament. Unfortunately, the Mexican PGA waited too long to find a tournament sponsor, so the tournament was canceled. The success of the course has helped to also make the surrounding development a tremendous success. Real estate values almost quadrupled after the golf course opened, to a range of $250,000-$500,000 for a quarter-acre lot. Half the lots were sold in the first year after the course opened. Lot owners also pay the development roughly $600 per month for lawn maintenance. The Mexican Golf Federation holds a very prestigious annual amateur tournament at Malinalco, with invitees from around the world. Malinalco is also the site for an annual Diplomat tournament, hosted each year by a different country's Ambassador to Mexico. The golf course construction at Malinalco was completed in eleven months, which was a record in México, where the typical course takes two to three years to build.
